About this Course Notes#

This document intends to be notes for students.

Course Details#

  • ESI4234: Quality Control and Reliability Engineering (QCRE)

  • Offered by the department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

  • Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University and Florida State University joint College of Engineering (FAMU-FSU COE)

  • Canvas is where submissions and grading happen

  • Instructor: Raghav Gnanasambandam (call me Raghav, ignore last name), TA: Changes

  • Meets twice a week for 75 minutes each (refer Canvas for exact timings)

Nature of the course#

  • Easy to score

  • Mathematical

  • Undergraduate Level

  • Prerequisite: Basic Probability and Statistics (but I dedicate sufficient effort to cover the basics)

  • Terminologies (refer to cheat sheet YET TO BE LINKED)

Acknowlegements#

  • Prof. Arda Vanli has been teaching this course at the FAMU-FSU COE for numerous years before I started working here. He provided all his materials to help me get started.

  • I taught this course for the first time in Fall 2024 and the existence of these notes is a product of my learning from the initial batch of seven unfortunate students (Warning: if you are taking this course with me, you might also be my teaching-lab rats)

  • This course builds upon one of Prof. Douglas Montgomery’s several textbooks in the field of Industrial Engineering - “Introduction to Statistical Quality Control”. An irrelevant fact is that Prof. Montgomery did his entire higher education (BS, MS, and PhD) in the same department I completed my PhD (more than 50 years later though).

Welcome to the course and happy learning!
